You came here for a reason, didn't you?

Screenprinted scroll book made in 2023

Formed from an exploration of image creation and what can be considered a book, You came here for a reason, didn't you? is about Florida.

I sourced vintage found footage from people's times in Florida, spliced them into a video collage, which I played on an iPad while I took high resolution scans. It created glitched, dream-like imagery, which was then CMYK screen printed onto cloth and sewn into a scroll.

As you unroll the scroll, the images are accompanied by a poem that goes through various reasons someone might come to Florida. It starts with why my mother came to Florida, and briefly considers people running from the cops (a la American's Most Wanted) and tourism, before going into why I returned to Florida.
